The Garden State Philharmonic announces a search for a Music Director / Conductor.

The Music Director / Conductor provides the artistic and musical leadership of the Garden State Philharmonic’s professional orchestra, community chorus, youth orchestra and youth chorus to meet the organization’s mission of producing concerts of artistic excellence that are of cultural and educational value and will engage the community.
The Music Director & Conductor is responsible for the repertoire, programming and artistic production of the GSP’s professional orchestra and management of its constituent groups.
Reporting to the Board of Directors though the President, the Music Director / Conductor will work in collaboration with the Managing Director. He/She serves as the public face and spokesperson of the GSP both on and off stage, building and sustaining the organizations visibility in the community.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional musicianship and conducting skills; orchestral conducting experience including work with professional musicians; knowledge of a broad range of repertoire; strong interpersonal skills, leadership and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with the Managing Director, Board of Directors, artistic staff, volunteers, and members of the orchestra; ability to serve as the public face of the organization; possess an awareness of the challenges facing the orchestra in a changing society with an ability to meet those challenges with creative solutions; and demonstrate an ability to broaden the GSP audience development through the design of winning orchestral programming that brings together the best mix of engaging and exciting repertoire and musical excellence; and a willingness to become an integral part of the community.
