The Garden State Philharmonic, with Music Director and Conductor, Diane Wittry, is currently holding auditions for instrumentalist to perform within the Orchestra.  Auditions are being held to fill openings in three categories:  Next Generation Musicians, Mentor Musicians, and Substitute Musicians.

 

Although the application will be done on-line and resumes submitted, during the first round of the process, all musical excerpts and solo audition pieces will be judged blindly.  There will be no knowledge of the identity of any of the musicians until the later rounds.

Musicians that are advanced to the second round may be asked to submit additional materials.

2018-2019 Rehearsal Schedule draft

Attendance at all rehearsals for a given concert is require in order to be hired to perform for that concert.
Rehearsals take place in Maplewood, NJ with performances primarily taking place in Toms River, NJ and other locations at the Jersey Shore.

Orchestra Guidelines & Policies

The Musician’s compensation for the 2018-2019 Season shall be: $70.00 per three hour Service or Concert.

 

Below are the criteria for each of the new areas.  All musicians who apply will also be considered for the sub list.

Next Generation Musicians

Candidates for the Next Generation Musician Positions should be exceptional musicians in the early stages of their career who are interested in community outreach and in developing more engaging concert performances.  Stage presence and the ability to communicate with an audience will be part of the audition criteria in the 2nd round.  Once accepted, these musicians will receive additional training and community outreach performance opportunities, they may also be considered for solo opportunities with the orchestra.

Musicians interested in auditioning to be a Next Generation Musician are required to submit the following for the audition process:

1st Round:  audio only (judged blindly or behind a screen)

  • Solo Piece
  • 4 Orchestral Excerpts from the provided list

2nd Round: Video or in person

  • 3 Additional Excerpts from the list
  • Short video or talk in person of why they are interested in the Next Generation Musician Program
  • Resume and bio

3rd Round:

Invited to play a concert with the Orchestra, where they will be evaluated by the Music Director and the Mentor Musicians in their section.

 

Next Generation Application

 

Mentor Musicians

Candidates for the Mentor Musician Positions should be exceptional Musicians with years of experience as a professional musician.  They will be able to offer knowledge and expertise in addition to being an expert performer on their instrument.  They should have the ability to encourage and support the Next Generation Musicians and offer career guidance and training.

 

1st Round:  audio only (judged blindly or behind a screen)

  •  Solo Piece
  • 4 Orchestral Excerpts from the provided list

2nd Round: Video or in person

  • Short – 3 minute Video or in person – talking about why they want to be a Mentor Musician and what expertise and experience they will bring to the orchestra
  • Resume and bio

3rd Round:

Invited to play a concert with the Orchestra, where they will be evaluated by the Music Director and other Mentor Musicians in the orchestra.

 

Mentor or Substitute Application

Substitute Musicians

Musicians interested in playing as a Substitute Musician with the GSP should fill out the on-line Mentor or Substitute  Musician Application, but express that they are applying to be considered as a Substitute Musician only.  They will still need to submit the required musical excerpts.  Audio Excerpts will be judged blindly.  Hiring priority will go to qualified musicians who have officially completed this audition process.
